A pair of established technical death metal bands are getting ready to unleash new albums. Virginia Beach's Arsis will drop their sixth full-length Visitant on November 2, which they've previewed with a video for "Tricking the Gods." And West Hobart, Tasmania's Psycroptic will release their seventh full-length studio album As the Kingdom Drowns on November 9 and have previewed the release with the track "We Are the Keepers." (see below)

Visitant is the follow-up to Arsis' 2013 album Unwelcome. Sessions were recorded at MRL Studios in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, DevilDriver). Musically, the album should appeal to anyone who has ever liked the band's brand of frantic, angular metal.

Regarding the lyrical content, the album was heavily inspired by splatter flicks, including Silver Bullet, The Fog, Prince of DarknessPhantasm and Lord of Illusions. "All the lyrics are inspired by a different horror movie," said frontman James Malone. "I wanted a title that would allude to that but not give things—what I’m actually saying—away flat out. When I say inspired by, it’s very loose. People still have room to draw their own interpretations of what the lyrics are about. There’s a supernatural element to the lyrics for sure. "Visitant is like an old-time word for ghost or apparition."

Psycroptic's As the Kingdom Drowns is the follow-up to their 2015 self-titled album and was produced by J. Haley and mixed and mastered by Will Putney. The album is the band's first to feature new bassist Todd Stern, who replaced Cameron Grant (following a 19-year tenure) in 2018.

While the record touches on familiar Psycroptic sounds and styles it also exhibits a greater willingness to experiment. "As always with this band, we wanted it to have the distinctive sound of a Psycroptic album but wanted to push ourselves further with adding new elements and having a darker vibe than on previous releases," said vocalist Jason Peppiatt. "I think we achieved our goal and this is something we are all very proud of."
