Metalcore bands were a dime a dozen in the '00s, but San Diego's As I Lay Dying are one of the standouts of the genre for a myriad of reasons. The anthemic 'Forever,' from 2003's 'Frail Words Collapse,' is a showcase of all the elements that propelled AILD to massive success.

While AILD have a rock solid Christian faith, they also grabbed secular listeners thanks to their meaty, moshable breakdowns and chunky, galloping guitars. Tim Lambesis provides vocalizations that sounds like he scaled the bowels of hell and emerged victorious after a battle with Satan himself, and when he sings, 'I gave my heart away,' moshers and metalcorists are compelled to shriek along.
