Legendary hardcore punk band Black Flag will continue to create music, but with a new frontman leading the band. Mike Vallely, who has fronted Revolution Mother and joined Black Flag's Greg Ginn in Good for You, will be taking over as vocalist for the exiting Ron Reyes.

Vallely, who had been managing Black Flag, tells Rolling Stone that the reunion of Greg Ginn with Ron Reyes did not go as planned. They released 'What The …' as their first album together in 28 years, but just after a month of release, Reyes was fired during a gig in Australia.

Vallely says, "We feel that, generally, the band fell short in 2013 because of a difference in the philosophies of Ron and Greg -- it just led to dysfunction." Now, with Vallely on vocals, he says that the group is making it their mission to right the wrongs of the last album cycle.

He explains, "Black Flag can be a stronger, more cohesive, tighter band. We want to prove that." And they'll get the chance as Black Flag are currently at work on new music and planning an extensive trek that will likely start in May.

Upon his exit from Black Flag, Reyes stated in a Facebook posting that it was "a great relief' and added that he felt that Vallely taking over as frontman would probably happen as it was something he felt had been planned for some time. Vallely says that this was never something planned out, but that Ginn offered him the job so that the Black Flag name didn't fizzle out and end on the record that had been released.

"He told me he made a mistake by working with Ron and trying to pander to a sort of old-school thing. He just thought that I was the guy for the job," explained the singer. "I'm not gonna say no to that."

As for the lawsuit with the other incarnation of Black Flag currently going under the name Flag, Vallely declined to comment. Ginn sued the group for trademark infringement, but last October a judge prevented Ginn from filing a preliminary injunction against his ex-bandmates.
