After kicking off at the end of September, the third annual hardDrive Live Monster Energy Outbreak Tour came to an end last night, but not before a weekend of memorable shows including their sold out stop at the Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, N.H. on Friday, Nov. 1.
What is a ringmaster? Though he's the show's most visible performer, a ringmaster charismatically showcases awe-inspiring acts while focusing the spotlight towards a myriad of characters outside of himself. In more modern eras, a ringmaster has been even known to sing and dance with his performers during the show. Devin Townsend knows this, and he plays the ringmaster perfectly throughout his new live CD/DVD 'The Retinal Circus.'
A lot has changed since 1988 when Slayer last laid waste at the historic Hollywood Palladium, playing with Danzig (on a night when a riot broke out, resulting in a ban from playing from the venue). Musical trends have shifted dozens of times since then but Slayer have never veered off course, continuing to plow a path of metal that's as pure, dark and compelling as any other band in the genre.
