Kurt Cobain was often portrayed as a man who didn't care for the spotlight, but in a new National Geographic documentary about the '90s, his widow, Courtney Love, offers a little more insight on Cobain's desire for fame.

Love states in 'The '90s: The Last Great Decade?' series, "He got called the voice of a generation a lot and that freaked him out. He probably got off on it. I would." She also adds that while it may have seemed that Cobain shunned the spotlight, fame was something that he definitely chased. "He wanted it bad," says Love. "He wrote to every major [and] minor label, 'We’ll pay. Let us be on your label.' He was desperate to be the biggest rock star in the world. But he made it look like it was thrust upon him."

The portion of the miniseries on Cobain also features interviews with the late rocker. In one snippet, he states, "I'm too stubborn to allow myself to ever compromise our music or turn us into big rock stars. I just don't feel like that." Cobain and Love also both address the media scrutiny they were under at the height of Nirvana's fame. Check out the comments in the video posted above.

The three-night miniseries airs on the National Geographic Channel beginning July 6.
