We previously reported that Courtney Love joined the cast of pop opera ‘Kansas City Choir Boy,’ and now you can check out video of the Hole singer performing one of the songs from the musical (watch above).

In an interview with the New York Times, Love says she found out about this project at the right time in her career, because playing old Hole hits was starting to lose its appeal. She stated that while performing on stage one night, she remembered thinking, “I got to that part where I’m looking down at the set list going, really, ‘Malibu’ next?...Are we halfway done yet? And when that happens in rock ‘n’ roll, it’s like, O.K., I’ve got to look at something else. Because I’m not loving this. I’m not in the moment.”

Love signed on to play ‘Athena,’ the female lead in the pop opera. The storyline involves a teenage couple in Kansas City who are torn apart when ‘Athena’ decides to move to NYC to follow her dreams of becoming a singer, while her boyfriend stays in the Midwest. Of the experience so far, Love says that it has rejuvenated her, “Forget persona, forget who’s new and who’s old, your mojo is your mojo. This is giving me real mojo and challenges that hopefully aren’t too hard.”

‘Kansas City Choir Boy’ is part of the Prototype Festival in New York City and the opera will run from Jan. 8 to Jan. 17.
