We recently reported on Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine sharing his support for 2012 Presidential candidate Rick Santorum. However, in a new statement and separate interview, Mustaine claims that although Santorum is "the one I'm looking at," he has not committed himself to vote for the Pennsylvania Senator quite yet.

The Megadeth mastermind issued a press release in an attempt to clear any confusion regarding his support for Santorum. “Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate," says Mustaine. "What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House. I’ve seen good qualities in all the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet. I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word ‘endorse.”

In Mustaine's original quote from an interview with MusicRadar, the guitar master stated, "I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum.”

Mustaine recently spoke about the political confusion and his personal stance on gay marriage with Seattle Weekly. Mustaine was asked whether Santorum's stance against gay marriage bothered the guitarist. "It doesn't bother me at all," replied Mustaine. As to the question of whether or not Mustaine himself supports gay marriage, he replied, "I'm a Christian. The answer to that would be no."
