It's the Quarterfinals of the 2016 Extreme Metal Olympics and we've got one of the more peculiar matchups in the tournament thus far. Japan's Dir En Grey will be facing off with Norway's Immortal, as  Dum Spiro Spero takes on Sons of Northern Darkness.

Two gothic bands duked it out in Round 1 as Great Britain's Cradle of Filth pitted Dusk and Her Embrace against Dir En Grey's Dum Spiro Spero. Boths bands stylistically venture into a wealth of different territories, making it one of the most interesting matchups early on in the tournament. Snagging two-thirds of the votes, Dir En Grey bested Cradle of Filth and are looking for another win to send them to the Semifinals in the Devil Horn Region.

Immortal triumphed over Greece's Septicflesh in the first round. Taking 63 percent of the votes was Sons of Northern Darkness, entombing The Great Mass in ice and freezing the Hellenic outfit early on in the tournament. With Dir En Grey as their competition this time around, Immortal will need those spikes and armor they so unabashedly wear on the album's cover if they're going to defeat the Japanese icons.

Which album will move on to the Semifinals of the 2016 Extreme Metal Olympics? Vote for either Dir En Grey's Dum Spiro Spero or Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness in the poll below and check out a song from each album beneath the poll if you're unfamiliar.

(This poll will end on Monday, Aug. 15, at 9AM ET. Fans are able to vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure your favorite song wins!)

Dir En Grey, "Different Sense"

Immortal, "One By One"
