Down have released a brand new song titled ‘Witchtripper’ off of their their six track EP disc called ‘EP One’ which is set to drop Sept. 18 and is part of a four part series of EPs.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Phil Anselmo spoke candidly about his original criticism of the song title, “Somebody would suggest to me, 'Hey, man, that might make a killer song title.' And at the time I'm like, 'You're out of your f---ing mind. There's no way I'm gonna call a song 'Witchtripper."

After giving in to the idea of ‘Witchtripper’ and giving the riffs of guitarist Pepper Keenan and the beats of drummer Jimmy Bower a chance, Anselmo says, "I was like, 'OK, check this out, you dicks. 'Witchtripper' you want, 'Witchtripper' you will get'"

"I laid it on them, and sure enough, they were right – it worked, as usual. So there goes the genius of Phil Anselmo. Always doubting, and I'm the last one to get it," he says.

‘EP One’ will be Down’s first batch of new music in five years since their third studio album ‘Down III: Over the Under.’

Anselmo also spoke about his present expectations and letting the music come naturally to him. "Right now I'm looking forward to the public's consumption and letting them hear it. I'm not sure if it's gonna break any ground. I never put any expectation on any friggin' record I do."

He went on to say, "We didn't overanalyze anything. We just let the songs kind of unfold, and once it felt right, there was no reason to go back."

Down continue to push forward and are gearing up to head out on the road in the fall for a U.S. tour which kicks off on Sept. 18 in Fort Worth, Texas. For a full list of dates and cities, go here.
