Down, the New Orleans swamp metal band starring Pantera's Philip Anselmo alongside Corrosion of Conformity's Pepper Keenan, Eyehategod's Jimmy Bower and Crowbar's Kirk Windstein, will be caking the stage of the Southport Music Hall in their hometown will a layer of sludge during Halloween weekend. The band announced two shows which will take place on Oct. 29 and 30. Who needs to trick or treat or waste hard-earned cash on a costume when you can go deaf to Down in NOLA instead?

The band, easily a supergroup, just split with bassist Rex Brown, who was also in Pantera with Anselmo. The band didn't have to look very far to replace Brown. Anselmo and co. recruited Patrick Bruders of Crowbar, keeping it all in the Down family. Keenan had commented on the split, saying that Bruders is "ass-kickin' in the same way" as Brown. Bruders also plays with fingers, as opposed to with a pick, further upping his cool factor.

Brown, on the other hand, has moved. He has his hands busy with his new band, Kill Devil Hill.
