likes to keep busy with numerous bands, and now it appears that the prolific drummer is adding another project to his long resume. In a post on his Facebook page, Portnoy reveals the musical direction is definitely metal.

The posts says, "I just layed down the most brutal drum performance of my career! Picture Angel Of Death meets Dyers Eve…I FINALLY have my metal outlet! \m/"

In the comments section of his Facebook post, the former Dream Theater stickman revealed that more details about the metal project are expected to be revealed soon. Meanwhile, the , one of Portnoy's other bands, are set to reconvene this month to begin work on their sophomore album to be released sometime later this year.

In other news, Portnoy will be part of the next Metal Allegiance concert, which will be Jan. 21 in Anaheim, Calif. The star-studded lineup also includes Anthrax‘s Frank Bello, Charlie Benante and Scott Ian, current and former Megadeth members David Ellefson and Chris Broderick. Chuck Billy and Alex Skolnick from Testament will also participate along with  Death Angel‘s Mark Osegueda, Sepultura‘s Andreas Kisser, the Cult‘s John Tempesta and Mastodon‘s Troy Sanders.

Metal Allegiance will be taking to the high seas, as well, as part of the 2015 Shiprocked Cruise from Feb. 2-6. As far as other upcoming Portnoy projects, the Neal Morse Band's latest album 'The Grand Experiment' will be released Feb. 10 and the group will be touring in February and March.
