Ensiferum, Korpiklaani and Trollfest Bring a Folkin’ Good Time to New York City

European folk metal was in full swing as Ensiferum headlined a packed house at Irving Plaza in New York City with Korpiklaani and Trollfest.

With their brand new album, One Man Army, Ensiferum hit the stage as they were joyfully welcomed by their New York Fans. The setlist for the Finnish melodic folk metallers was filled with fresh tracks “Axe of Judgement,” “Heathen Horde,” “Warrior Without War,” “Smoking Ruins” and “Two of Spades” from the new disc.

Fans also rejoiced to favorites “From Afar” and “Iron” but one of the most awesome parts of the set was when Ensiferum cranked out their rendition of Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law.”

Fellow Finnish metal act Korpiklaani took the stage beforehand in support of their new effort, Noita. They began their set with "Viinamäen Mies" (Vineyard Man) and they proceeded to play other new songs "Pilli On Pajusta Tehty" (The Flute is Made of Willow), “Lempo,” ”Sahti,” "Minä Näin Vedessä Neidon" (I Saw a Maiden in the Water) and "Ämmänhauta" (Witch's Tomb) during their energetic hour and a half set.

During notable drinking tunes “Vodka,” “Wooden Pints” and their cover of "Juodaan Viinaa” (originally by Hector), where there would usually be a mosh pit there was a bit of a circular crowd of very jolly dancers swinging arm in arm. Throughout the entire set, hands were clapping and the booze was flowing.

Norwegian Balkan metal act Trollfest is always a lot of fun to experience. With seven members onstage, each with their own style and charisma, their unique sound and enthusiastic stage presence are hard to deny. Also who doesn’t love an accordion and saxophone in metal?
