"Just saw the final edit of the 'Imperfection' video... I’m beside myself, you’re gonna love it," Evanescence singer Amy Lee commented three days ago (Oct. 17). Well, that day has now come as the band has issued a video for the new Synthesis single. It begins on a brooding, somber note as a young girl weeps while a blanket-covered stretcher wheels the deceased into a waiting ambulance.

Clips flash between the white-clad Lee under cover from the pouring rain and a girl, who flees the aforementioned scene in a state of panic, running past a long metal post fence in her overalls before coming to a halt, hitting an emotional breaking point. Lee sits with her hands in her lap, miming playing a piano and it's clear the scene we see involving the girl is a flashback. Then dark orchestral moments give way as the song's beat and Lee's vocal come in.

It's one of those moments where the visual component feels essential to the music and, forgive the phrasing, brings everything to life. Evanescence fans may feel a bit of a stylistic hurdle as the band's sound now explores beat-charged electronic territory rather than the driving hard rock they made their name on. The video for "Imperfection," which swirls with geometric designs and smokey layers of color, emphasizes the more anthemic moments of the song and should help those struggling with the disconnect to better piece together the band's musical motives, which, at the core, still represent the heart of Evanescence that's been beating since the release of their Fallen debut.

"For me, this is the most important song on the album. I struggled with the lyrics for a long time because there was a lifetime of work to live up to and I wasn't sure what to say or how to be good enough," Lee said about "Synthesis," continuing, "When it finally started pouring out of me, it was undeniable. I had no choice. It's for all the people we've lost, all the people who we could lose, to suicide and depression. I'm singing from the perspective of the person left behind, the person in the waiting room. It's a plea to fight for your life, to stay. Don't give into the fear- I have to tell myself that every day. Nobody is perfect.  We are all imperfect, and it's precisely those imperfections that make us who we are, and we have to embrace them because there's so much beauty in those differences. Life is worth fighting for. You are worth fighting for."

Synthesis will be released on Nov. 10 through Sony (pre-orders available at this location) and packs two new singles, including "Perfection," alongside a collection of reimagined hits, like "Bring Me to Life," that are fueled by glitchy and erratic beats with a cinematic orchestral background. Evanescence's "Synethesis Live" North American tour is currently underway and will wrap up on Dec. 19. Click here for a list of all upcoming stops.
