On May 27, 2003, a young band from Jacksonville, Fla. called Shinedown arrived on the scene with their debut album, 'Leave a Whisper,' and it didn't take long before they started making their name as a force to be reckoned with in the rock world. The upstart four-piece of powerhouse vocalist Brent Smith, guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart and drummer Barry Kerch showed their knack for making great rock tracks and a breakout band was born. This Readers Poll reflects on the band's debut effort and asks you to vote for your favorite song from the 'Leave a Whisper' album.

On the charts, the band found immediate success with 'Fly From the Inside' and '45,' hard-hitting tracks that catapulted the band into the Top 5 hard rock songs in the country. Then, after a deluxe edition re-release, their newly added cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Simple Man' brought in a whole new batch of fans. By that time, everyone had caught onto what Shinedown was laying down and their final album single 'Burning Bright' shot all the way up to No. 2 on the rock charts.

Songs like the rock ballad 'Better Version' and the harder edged 'Left Out' and 'In Memory' also stood out in what was overall a very stellar rock record for the band. Though the lineup has changed over time with only Smith and Kerch left, the seeds of Shinedown's sound still trace back to the 'Leave a Whisper' era.
