Filter Unleash Crushing New Song ‘Mother E’

Filter‘s Richard Patrick has been promising a more experimental and crazy album, and fans are getting a taste of that with the brand new song “Mother E” off the upcoming Crazy Eyes disc.

I’ve got my reasons and my reasons are sound,” initially whispers Patrick at the beginning of the track before repeatedly delivering the lines with increased intensity. Eventually his intense vocals are joined by some crushingly heavy backing instruments, until there’s a jarring yet theatrical-feeling mid-song shift back to near silence before building back up to the brutal heaviness.

“The reason this record is so f–king heavy and strange is it’s exactly the opposite of what’s popular. It’s not pretty. It’s not cute. It’s real,” recently stated Patrick. In another quote, he stated, “This record is more experimental and crazy. It’s where I am today. I wanted to go to some scary, weird places instead of doing that big-ass guitar sound again … I feel so strongly about having it be weird and intense and authentic and bizarre, because we’ve done ‘perfect.’ This is a new era for me because it’s the first time I’ve totally produced the record, and I made it raw and real the way I wanted it.”

Patrick and his Filter bandmates will have a chance to share their new musical vision when they hit the road in April for the cleverly titled “Make America Hate Again” tour. Dates begin April 15 in Portland, Ore., and continue into the latter portion of May. See all the stops below. And keep an eye out for Filter’s Crazy Eyes album, arriving in stores April 8. It’s available for pre-order via Amazon.
