After sweating it out this summer on Warped Tour, For Today are about to embark on a North American trek with We Came As Romans. The band has been on the road promoting their new album ‘Fight the Silence,’ and we had the chance to catch up with frontman Mattie Montgomery, who agreed to play a game of ‘Would You Rather?’ He talks about his love of touring, his fondness for fans stage diving and more. Check out our latest game of ‘Would You Rather?’ featuring Mattie Montgomery of For Today below:

Would you rather be really late for the show or mess up onstage?

That’s a hard question, I guess I’d rather screw up onstage, I’ve done that a few times and that way you just have to roll with it. It’s like I was giving it my best shot and my best wasn’t good enough. But if I’m late then I’m saying I don’t care and I’m not giving it my best.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

On tour, ten times out of ten. The studio is fine but it’s tedious and we’re obsessing over things all the time. I love being on tour.

Would you rather have a massive bank account or a massive fanbase?

A massive bank account because people wouldn’t stop me on the street or on a date with my wife or at the park with my kids but with a massive fanbase that would happen. I could be rich and reclusive but you can’t be famous and reclusive.

Would you rather tour with a band you didn’t respect or tour with a band that didn’t respect you?

Gosh, I don’t know! Those both kind of suck. If I tour with a band that doesn’t respect us then we’re in a situation where we totally respect them and they hate us. That’s heartbreaking. Then if I say I’d rather tour with a band that we don’t respect then this band is like, “Hey we love you guys,” and we’re like, “Yeah, whatever,” which also sucks. Can I choose neither, both of those are terrible.

Would you rather live in a world where people break into song or people break into mosh pits?

Song, for sure. If everybody just knew songs for certain occasions and choreographed dances and everything that would be incredible. I would love that, just livin’ in a musical. I’d take jazz hands over circle pits any day. [Laughs]

Would you rather play small clubs forever of big festivals forever?

I don’t know, I love them both so much. Maybe small clubs -- stage dives, that’s what I miss when I’m on festivals because there’s 10 feet between me and the crowd the whole time. I really love stage dives. I especially like when I can be like an air traffic controller and direct kids one after another.

Would you rather be an '80s rock band in present day or would you rather be For Today in the '80s?

I would rather be an '80s band today, I think there’s something noble about keeping the flame burning. I guess it would be cool to be ahead of our time but I think there’s something honorable about carrying the torch through the decades.
