Gene Simmons Makes KISS Fan’s Final Wish Come True

Grab a tissue before reading this one because it’s a tear-jerker. KISS legend Gene Simmons made a dream come true for mega-fan Dilan Kohn, a “critically ill 17-year old” who “desperately wanted to meet and hang out with the rock and roll musician.” With the help of some special staff members, they called Dr. Love — well, sent an email — and the rock icon flew into Las Vegas the next morning to pay a special visit to one of his biggest fans at the Children’s Hospital of Nevada.

In a post on the hospital’s Facebook page, they revealed, “Mr. Simmons had not only been Dilan’s idol, but also his inspiration growing up.” Upon arrival, “he showed up with a big bag full of signed memorabilia just for Dilan” which can be seen in the photo above. The goodies included a signed copy of KISS’ debut album, appearing to be an original pressing by the wear on the record’s jacket. Also signed was the band’s most recent album, Monster.

“The two hung out, shared stories and laughed together for well over an hour while staff looked on with tears in their eyes,” said the hospital. In closing, they stated, “Thank you Mr. Simmons for making this wish come true just in time,” sadly noting, “Unfortunately Dilan passed away peacefully a couple days later.”

Simmons is no stranger to giving back to the community. In August of 2015, he teamed up with guitarist Gilby Clarke and actor Johnny Depp to perform some KISS classics for charity. The show was to benefit Mending Kids, an organization which provides life-changing surgical care to children in need worldwide.
