Now that Green Day’s Broadway musical ‘American Idiot,’ a theatrical transformation of their album by the same name, has ended its run on the Great White Way, it’s being eyed for the big screen. A film adaptation of the production is in the works and slated for a 2013 release.

The story behind the musical focuses on the tale of three childhood friends that face some life-changing decisions that fall between following their dreams or staying within the safe confines of suburbia, all based in a post 9/11 ever-changing world, and set to the music of Green Day.

With the wheels in motion for the film, it begs the question, who will play the lead role? In a 2009 interview, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong thought that 'Twilight'’s Robert Pattinson would be a good pick saying, “I'm gonna say maybe that kid in 'Twilight,' [Pattinson]. He's a good actor. There's still more to come with that kid."

People are now buzzing about the possibility of RPattz in the film. Pattinson, a musician in his own right, plays both guitar and piano and pens his own tunes. Also rumored is a possible appearance by Armstrong himself as the drug dealer character St. Jimmy, who has been played on Broadway by a bevy of rockers including Armstrong and A.F.I.’s Davey Havok.

The truth is that no one has actually been cast yet and this is all really speculation brought about by a recent ‘Pop Up Video’ version of Green Day’s song ’21 Guns’ where one of the addictive little bubbles lures us all in by saying, “Hollywood is trying to turn it into a movie ... Billie Joe has said that his first choice to play the main character: Robert Pattinson."

So, who would you like to see it the film adaptation of ‘American Idiot’?
