Guns N' Roses were carving out their niche as one of rock's hardest bands when 'Patience' came along in late 1988. This lovelorn ballad spoke to the loneliness of life on the road and trying to set a loved one's mind at ease about the distance.

Though the video doesn't have a traditional love story, it's easy to see that Axl Rose's whistling, Slash's guitar playing and reaction shots of the band members fit exactly the mood of a love letter to someone who is not around. And even with plenty of women hanging around and excesses aplenty, it can't replace the feeling of having that one true love around.
