Aerosmith's Joe Perry is one of the most legendary axemen in the business. Fellow Hollywood Vampires guitarist Johnny Depp is a pretty legendary actor, but apparently his guitar skills are top-notch as well and really impressed Perry.

Hollywood Vampires frontman Alice Cooper chatted with Eon Music about the band's classic rock n' roll ethos and Depps's guitar prowess, saying, "Johnny is one of these guys that just loves that era, and he's a killer guitar player. There's a movie called Chocolat, and he plays this gypsy guitar player, and he does all this [famed jazz guitarist] Django Reinhardt stuff, and it's really him. It's not somebody playing for him, he's really playing that stuff. Joe Perry heard that and he called him up and said; 'Can I get guitar lessons from you?!' So that's how good Johnny is."

The band released their self-titled debut album last year, and will be doing some shows this summer. Hollywood Vampires will play the Rock in Rio festival in Lisboa, Portugal on May 27. Concerts in Sweden, Denmark and Romania follow, before the band kicks off a U.S. tour July 1 in Bethlehem, Pa.

The touring lineup will include Cooper, Perry, Depp, Matt Sorum, Bruce Witkin and Tommy Henriksen. Stone Temple Pilots‘ bassist Robert DeLeo will be filling in for Duff McKagan, who has commitments with Guns N’ Roses.
