Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer is doing well after undergoing a recent neck surgery. The band had to cancel their summer 2014 touring schedule so that Schaffer could have the issue addressed as it became so problematic that he was unable to fulfill his touring responsibilities.

Schaffer had originally planned on having the procedure done in September after the summer touring season, but was advised he needed it done sooner. He previously underwent neck surgery in 2000 from the effects of a 1996 onstage injury.

Thankfully the most recent surgery went well, and Schaffer has issued the following statement via the band's Facebook page:

Hello friends,

I’m writing to let you know that I made it through the surgery and am steadily on the road to recovery. The surgeon informed us that everything went smooth during the operation and that I should be back in action within a few months.

Thank you all very much for your support, you truly are the best fans any band could ask for.

Take care and best to you all,

Jon Schaffer

The band's latest album 'Plagues of Babylon' was released in January of this year. It was the second Iced Earth album for vocalist Stu Block and the first for bassist Luke Appleton. Since the album was recorded, drummer Jon Dette (Testament, Slayer) has become a member.
