An Australian Guns N’ Roses fan who had his teeth shattered at the band’s recent Perth gig is in the process of taking legal action after he was injured when Axl Rose apparently tossed his cordless microphone into the crowd. The mic hit fan Darren Wright in the face and caused approximately $5000 worth of damage.

Guns N’ Roses are well known for their spectacular live show, which is packed full of pyro and massive lighting rigs. Unfortunately for Darren Wright, those components apparently impeded his vision enough so that he didn’t see Axl’s wayward microphone heading towards his face. “With the bright lights and explosions, I couldn’t see anything,” Wright tells the West Australian. “The next thing I knew, I was whacked in the mouth. I thought I had been punched. I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realize what was going on. I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.”

Wright left the concert with his two front teeth chipped, painfully exposing a nerve in one tooth, along with suffering a minor cut on his lip. The 39-year-old pest controller has spoken to Perth law firm Hammond Legal to begin legal proceedings against Rose, although Wright holds no personal grudge against the GN’R singer. “I don’t think he intended to do it, but it came at me at a fairly flat and hard trajectory,” explains Wright. “Those cordless microphones are not light. I’m surprised it didn’t do more damage,” he said. “At the very least, I want someone to pay to get my teeth fixed.”

Tour promoter Andrew McManus extended the olive branch to the injured fan, offering Wright an apology along with a new microphone signed by Axl Rose. “In reality I don’t think the microphone is going to fix my teeth or pay for the dentist,” Wright says. “I’m a father of four on a single income doing it hard in Perth.”

Wright claims that according to a dentist, procedures to fix the fan’s teeth would take months of work costing at least $5000.
