In our first head-to-head matchup in the Mosh Pit Region, we've got one of the most iconic metal bands of all-time squaring off against one of the most underrated. But did either of these acts put together a full disc worthy of being deemed the best metal disc of the 21st century? The winner of this battle will have a chance to move on to Round 2 of Loudwire's March Metal Madness 2014.

On one side of this battle, there's Iron Maiden and their 2000 release, 'Brave New World.' The band's 12th studio album was a big one for the band as frontman Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith returned after exiting in the early '90s. The three-guitar attack only enhanced the heaviness of the group's music. Songs like 'The Wicker Man,' 'Blood Brothers,' 'Ghost of the Navigator,' the title track and 'Out of the Silent Planet' have stood the test of time and remained favorites in their live sets.

Maiden's opponent in this Round 1 matchup is Isis and their 2002 effort, 'Oceanic.' While they may not have the commercial success of Iron Maiden, Isis have been regarded as one of the most critically beloved acts in metal and the 'Oceanic' album is a big reason why. The disc, delving deep into relationship themes and rolling out like a story, struck a chord with listeners. Standout cuts include 'The Beginning and the End' and 'Weight,' which both feature guest vocals from Maria Christopher, as well as 'False Light' and the album closer, 'Hym.'

So which album will move on to the second round of March Metal Madness 2014? Vote for either Iron Maiden's 'Brave New World' or ISIS' 'Oceanic' album in the poll below!

(This poll will end on Sunday, March 9 at 11:59 PM EST. Fans are able to vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure your favorite album wins!)
