Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner just bought up one of the most prized collections in metal history: late Slayer shredder Jeff Hanneman's personal guitars.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Jeff Hanneman's guitars would be sold at auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Four of Jeff's guitars were set to go on the auction block, but before it ever happened, Jeremy Wagner contacted Jeff's widow, Kathryn, and wound up with six of Jeff's own axes.

You'll recognize all six in the photo above. Three of them sport custom artwork commemorating the unholy trinity of classic Slayer albums: Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven. Wagner is also now the owner of Hanneman's punk rock Jackson featuring Johnny Rotten's face and the Dead Kennedys' logo, the Metal Mulisha ESP and Jeff's black "KILL" guitar.

The amount paid for Jeff's guitars is undisclosed, but the starting bid for each axe on eBay was $12,000, so we imagine they didn't come cheap. “Riffs are just flowing out of me," Wagner tells Guitar World. "I feel a real responsibility to Jeff and to Kathryn to use these guitars in a way that honors him. As long as I own these guitars, I will use them and carry on Jeff Hanneman‘s legacy. He remains a huge influence to me, and I probably wouldn’t be here as an extreme metal guitarist/lyricist without him.”

Cattle Decapitation vocalist Travis Ryan even snagged himself a picture holding Hanneman's punk rock Jackson:

Thanks Jeremy Wagner for letting me hold this piece of history. So fuckin cool, even has dried up "blood" on it from the...

Earlier this year, Jeremy Wagner donated his Illinois farm to an animal rescue organization. “Donating the farm did my heart and soul a great deal of good, as did the stipulation of my gift: the farm’s mission is to always aid animals in need and offer their sanctuary and this mission is to never be violated,” says Wagner.
