Korn Bring the House Down in New Jersey With Help From Device + Love and Death

Whether you’re an old-school or new-school Korn fan, it’s always a treat when the band comes to town. Last night’s show at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, N.J., was even more special since the band is back with original guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch.

Drummer Ray Luzier graced the stage first as he took his seat atop his caged percussive throne. Looking like a gang from ‘The Warriors,’ Munky, Fieldy and Head came out together as frontman Jonathan Davis belted out those three words every Korn fan wants to hear “Are you ready?!”

They kicked off their mind blowing set with older favorites such as ‘Blind,’ ‘Ball Tongue’ and ‘Twist.’ Fans exploded to ‘Falling Away From Me,’ ‘Did My Time,’ ‘Shoots and Ladders,’ ‘Here To Stay’ and numerous others.

As a long time Korn fan, seeing Head onstage with the rest of Korn was both nostalgic and revitalizing. The band’s entire set was filled with relentless energy and the chemistry between the old friends was unmatched.

Korn’s encore included ‘Get Up!’ off of their latest album, ‘The Path of Totality,’ and classics ‘Got the Life’ and ‘Freak on a Leash.’

Disturbed may be on hiatus but frontman Dave Draiman has been very busy with his project Device and the band’s self-titled album. The three-piece outfit had a forceful set and had fans fist pumping to songs such as ‘You Think You Know’ and ‘Out of Line.’ Draiman showed off his vocal chops on the band’s rendition of the track ‘Close My Eyes Forever’ and welcomed Russell Allen of Symphony X and Adrenaline Mob for a duet on ‘Haze.’ Device closed out the set with their chart-topping single ‘Vilify’ and a rousing cover of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Wish.’

Brian ‘Head’ Welch was doing double duty last night as both the guitarist of Korn and the very energetic frontman of his own band Love and Death. Their set featured songs from their debut full length disc, ‘Between Here & Lost,’ including ‘I W8 4 U,’ ‘Chemicals’ and their rocking cover of Devo’s ‘Whip It.’
