Despite all of their ups and downs, stoner rockers Kyuss Lives! put on an epic performance at Terminal 5 in New York City Friday (Sept. 23).

Bassist Nick Oliveri was in the lineup despite facing some serious legal troubles recently. Along with the rest of his bandmates -- vocalist John Garcia, drummer Brant Bjork and guitarist Bruno Fevery taking the place of original axe-man Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures) -- Kyuss Lives! lit up the stage.

The band rocked the house and played fan favorites such as ‘Spaceship Landing,’ ‘Whitewater’ and ‘Freedom Run’ and many others. Garcia sounded impeccable and Fevery definitely stepped up to the plate with his guitar playing skills. Not to mention Oliveri dropping some heavy bass lines for eager fans. Overall, the entire set was ear-splitting.

Texan band the Sword served as support, as they played a high energy set. Lead guitarist Kyle Shutt shredded it up for fans with his flawless solos. The band performed a few of their earlier songs such as ‘Freya,’ ‘Ebethron,’ as well as ‘Night City,’ Arrows in the Dark’ and many others from their 2010 release ‘Warp Riders.’

Fellow southerners MonstrO opened up the show with an explosive performance. They had an enthusiastic stage presence, which set the tone for the entire night. Even Jesse Leach (Times of Grace, Empire Shall Fall), who was at the show, said on his Facebook page, “I went to see Kyuss Lives, what a GREAT show had a total blast watching one of my all time favorite bands play! However, this band MonstrO opened and blew me away.”
