Lamb of God Play ‘Overlord’ for First Time At Pittsburgh Concert

Lamb of God dug a little deeper into their VII: Sturm Und Drang album over the weekend, trotting out the song “Overlord” for the first time within the band’s live sets. The performance, seen in the fan-shot video above, took place Friday night (Jan. 15) at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE.

The inclusion of “Overlord” into the set is a significant decision, as the track finds Randy Blythe delivering clean vocals rather than his usual rough vocal belting. As a result, it’s one of the more melodic songs in the band’s catalog.

Last fall, when the band debuted the video for the track, Blythe stated, “I wrote the song about the dangers of self-obsession in our distressingly myopic and increasingly entitled ‘me-now/now-me’ culture. Just like the couple in the video, many people can’t seem to look past their own relatively small problems to see the bigger picture: the world is in serious trouble. Having a bad day at work, or a fight with your significant other, or getting a crappy haircut or table service does not in any way shape or form constitute an emergency. Sometimes things just don’t work out the way we want them to, [so] deal with it.”

He went on to add, “People who only see their own problems eventually wind up alone because no one wants to hear their crap anymore. We all know someone like that, always whining and complaining about some inconsequential setback as if it were the apocalypse. This song is for those people.”

Lamb of God are currently on tour with Anthrax. Check out all their scheduled dates here.
