Man Expected to Plead Guilty to Murder of Metallica Fan Morgan Harrington

Morgan Harrington

Huge news to report, as a man is expected to plead guilty to the murder of 20-year-old Metallica fan Morgan Harrington, who went missing after attending one of the band’s shows in 2009.

Harrington was last seen leaving a Metallica concert held at the University of Virginia on Oct. 17, 2009. She reportedly attempted to hitch a ride back from the gig, but never made it home. Her body was found three months later roughly 10 miles south of the UVA campus.

Metallica took personal stake in attempting to find Morgan Harrington’s killer, offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who had information which led to the capture and conviction of the murderer. James Hetfield even recorded a personalized video message in 2012 encouraging anyone who may have a lead to come forward.

In September 2015, Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr. was formally charged with the murder of Morgan Harrington along with the 2014 killing of University of Virginia sophomore Hannah Graham. Matthew is already serving three life sentences for a 2005 rape and attempted murder of a woman from Fairfax County, Va.

Matthew’s guilty plea for the two murders is anticipated to take place during a court hearing tomorrow (March 2) according to Albemarle County prosecutor Robert Tracci. Morgan Harrington’s mother, Gil Harrington, is “very relieved” to know a plea is likely coming. “This was the most logical and compassionate way to resolve this. It made no sense to go through a trial for someone who is already facing three life sentences,” Harrington told WTOP.

Stay tuned to Loudwire for updates on tomorrow’s plea.
