Most musicians are fortunate if they've been in one successful band; being in two is a real rarity. Mark Tremonti, though, can now list three popular bands on his resume: Creed, Alter Bridge, and his solo project Tremonti.

Tremonti -- the band -- has hit a new peak with their latest release, A Dying Machine (read our review here).

Tremonti -- the man -- came by our studio recently, while promoting the album. Among other things, he blew our minds with his cover of Metallica's "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" on a "Hello Kitty" guitar. But he also treated us to a quick guitar lesson, it's a bit of what he does at guitar clinics. "It's a combination of fives and sevens," he says. "Let's take scales out of it."

Mark Tremonti, by the way, has been playing a PRS signature guitar since he was in Creed, and just released his first signature guitar amp with PRS. And, as we pointed out in a Gear Factor episode a few weeks back, you can use Mark's PRS MT 15 Amplifier Head to sound like Slayer.
