Is there anyone in rock with as many irons in the fire as Max Cavalera? In the years since his exit from Sepultura, the singer-guitarist initially focused his efforts on Soulfly before expanding his resume in recent years. The rocker has recently added Cavalera Conspiracy and now the supergroup Killer Be Killed to his "to-do" list and he'll be busy with all three acts this year.

Loudwire had a chance to speak with Cavalera, who added making a guest cameo with Suicide Silence at the Revolver Golden Gods as part of his responsibilities for the evening, just prior to the event. Cavalera spoke about Suicide Silence, Killer Be Killed, Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy in the midst of our time on the Black Carpet. Check out the interview below.

So Max, here we are at the Golden Gods tonight, and you're not just in attendance, we're going to see you up onstage, right?

Yeah, I'm jamming with Suicide Silence. We're doing [Sepultura's] 'Roots.' I just saw them on the Black Carpet. They're back there somewhere, and we previously did it at the Mitch [Lucker] Memorial show. It was great and everyone loved it. Sepultura was one of Mitch's favorite bands, so it's appropriate. It's their first [U.S.] show with their new singer Eddie [Hermida], so when they asked me if I wanted to do that, I was like, "Hell yeah." That sounds like a great, great plan.

That Mitch Lucker Memorial show was great, and such an amazing turnout and lineup. Can you tell me what it was like for you to be part of that event?

It was great energy, great energy. It was very emotional for me cause I gave his dad a guitar. I made ESP give me one of my guitars that I could give to his dad cause I knew that his dad was a big part of bringing him up on metal. And I found out from secret sources that 'Chaos A.D.' was Mitch's second album. Deftones was his first. So his dad did a good education on the kid, you know.

I never met Mitch unfortunately. We had always toured separately, but it was great to be invited and it was a special, special night. You could feel it in the air and there were so many singers from so many cool bands, especially a lot of newer bands that I really like -- Whitechapel was there and All Shall Perish -- so it was really cool and I was one of the old guys [laughs].

You've got so many projects. Let's start with Killer Be Killed, since that's next up for you. How did you get involved with that?

Yeah, that was actually Greg [Puciato]'s idea. I was not looking for a project. I've got Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy and I'm very busy, but Greg was very persistent. He was like, "We've got to do it. We've got to do this project," and I told him, "We can do it, but it's gotta be different." And it was. We got together and made a really special record I think -- especially with the voices. You've got Greg's voice, my voice, Troy's [Sanders] voice. It's a collision, man. It's really, really weird. But it works and it doesn't sound like our own bands, so that's a good thing.

With a supergroup, even though everyone's solid, there's no guarantee that it will work. What was it like getting together with these guys and how soon did you know it was going to work out?

Well it went through phases. It started out as just this really punk think with me and Greg. We wrote the first demos and it sounded like s---. Just total, total s---. We played it for people and they told us, "Do not play this for people if you want to get signed." So we kept those demos hidden and I don't know if I'd ever want to release them. But it got better as we got more players. We got Dave Elitch, who is a killer player and a killer drummer and then when Troy joined the band, it just became really powerful and really great.

And how about Soulfly at this point?

Soulfly's touring. We're going to Russia with the Korn guys. We've got 10 shows. It's going to be awesome, going all over Siberia and flying with them. It's going to be fun and I've got some pranks all ready. I'm going to prank them. [Laughs] You know, maybe a couple of shaven heads.

Hear that, Korn? Don't fall asleep!

Right, right.

Also, Cavalera Conspiracy. I know you've been working on that as well.

Yeah f--- the groove. That's what we're going to call it, cause it's all fast and brutal. I made my brother sweat. It's like trying to make him play fast like he's 15-years-old. I don't care if you're 43, I don't give a s---. You're gonna play fast the whole time and every time he was in a groove, I'd say, "F--- the groove. Get out of the groove and go back to fast." So maybe we call [the new album] 'F--- the Groove.'

Here at the Golden Gods, obviously you're playing with Suicide Silence, but anyone else you're excited to see play?

Well, I'm not too big on Guns N' Roses, but I like Duff [McKagan]. Duff's a good guy and I heard he's going to play with them, so that should be fun. And, of course, I'm looking forward to Suicide Silence.

Our thanks to Max Cavalera for the interview. Killer Be Killed's debut disc can be pre-ordered here ahead of its May 13 release. Soulfly's tour dates can be seen here.
