Mayhem Fest 2013 Kickoff: Children of Bodom, Emmure, Motionless in White + More [Photos]

The Musicians Institute Stage at the 2013 Mayhem Festival kickoff in San Bernardino, Calif. was as scorching as the 100-plus degree heat all day long. Fans gathered around to catch a mixture of veteran bands and younger metal rockers, including Children of Bodom, Emmure, Born of Osiris, Motionless in White, Attika 7 and Thrown Into Exile.

The eclectic blend of classic metal, plus shock, thrash and hardcore provided many powerful moments throughout the brutally hot summer day. Security had its hands full at the front of the barricades as the bodies flew and the fists pumped -- sometimes on someone else's head.

All in all though, the sets on the lower stages at Mayhem were the perfect appetizers for the metal feast that was served up on main stage once the sun went down.
