Maynard James Keenan has released a fascinating trailer for his upcoming memoir, A Perfect Union of Contrary Things. Sitting in front of a projector screen, Maynard watches his life flash by while narration guides us through what we'll learn from the enigmatic musician's book.

The autobiography was written by Keenan along with Sarah Jensen, who has been a friend of Maynard’s for three decades. You'll hear Jensen's voice in the trailer above, as the writer dubs Maynard a "loyal friend; the perfect dinner guest who gives the best Christmas presents." Maynard's projector conjures up essential questions like, "Why did the aspiring artist enlist in the U.S. military?" and "Why would a successful musician insist on anonymity?" We'll find out come the book's release.

Keenan has already cautioned fans not to expect a muck-raking, tell-all book, but if you've only had an abridged version on Maynard’s story will soon be privy to a much larger chunk of the Tool / A Perfect Circle / Puscifer frontman’s life. “There's always that perception that whatever you've done that's the largest media-friendly thing in your life, where the world came to know of you, there's a perception that there was no life before, and that you were nothing before,” Keenan told Rolling Stone. “There's a lot of stuff that went on in my life that nobody really knows about. So I feel like this is the chance to show the patterns, tell a story.”

Fans can expect to learn all about Maynard’s childhood, his years in the Army and art school, working at a Boston pet shop and eventually the journey to becoming one of rock and metal’s most revered musicians. “A Perfect Union of Contrary Things presents the outtakes, the scenes of disappointment and triumph, and the events that led him to take one step after the next, to change direction, to explore sometimes surprising opportunities,” reads an official description. “Included throughout are passages in Keenan’s own words, often humorous anecdotes that illuminate the narrative.” Commentary from family, friends, instructors and industry colleagues will also fill the book’s pages.

A Perfect Union of Contrary Things, which weighs in at 320 pages, will hit shelves on Nov. 8. To pre-order a copy of the book, click here. Check out the four-minute trailer above!
