I’m a big AIC fan, and as we prepare for the next album, I’m curious what people think of ‘Black Gives Way to Blue.’ Personally, I loved it. I think it was the best album of 2009 and solidified AIC’s place in current rock music, in addition to strengthening their legendary stature in the world of rock and roll.
So, specifically, what do you think of ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’? Did you appreciate it as an effort of AIC or do you think they’ll never be what they were without Layne?

February 7, 2013 4:37 AM at 4:37 am Post #120178I’m a huge aic fan but I just can’t get into their new stuff. I’m not saying they’re bad but when I listen to aic I just want to hear lane singing. I am going to see them this year so maybe ill change my mind
February 25, 2013 4:44 AM at 4:44 am Post #124323my take on their current lineup?? It rocks, why you ask? what do you think of it? and you better say it’s good!
February 26, 2013 2:19 PM at 2:19 pm Post #124663Don’t care to much for the current lineup . Black Gives Way to Blue wasn’t impressive and was very forgetable. New stuff sounds the same. They may have kept the name, but it’s not Alice in Chains.
March 2, 2013 7:34 PM at 7:34 pm Post #125755I think Black Gives Way to Blue is there finest work. Don’t get me wrong ( no pun intended) Dirt and Tripod were incredible, and Layne will never be forgotten as lead vocalist and Jerry’s musical collaborator. But there is a real maturity in the new album and the guys are clean and sober. They are better musicans now, older and a hell of a lot wiser than they used to be. Jerry poured his heart into this album, for Layne and his own grieving. Jerry and Layne were the masters of th e Alice “sound”, trading off vocals for hits like them bones, got me wrong, heaven beside you, would, down in a hole etc- they were brilliant but the show must go on. However, certain songs I find difficult to hear without Layne like Love Hate Love, Man in the Box, Nutshell- just don’t have the same “ache” that Layne provided- his pain was real, and unfortaunately it took him down.
That being said, I wanted to put this out there. I am currently writing a new bio for Layne and AIC told from my heart. I hope you guys it make suggestions and comments to support my effort. I love AIC, I wrote about my grief process in losing Layne, I will represent this band right. I do this for them, and US and of course-me.

March 4, 2013 2:37 PM at 2:37 pm Post #125908For those of you who have do not care for the new Alice, you have to keep in mind that they cannot “sound” as they used too for several reasons. First. layne is gone and there is no replacing him, vocally or otherwise. Second, all the guys cannot sing about the same stuff with the same sound because they are no longer in that space. They are all clean and sober. Reliving Dirt is impossible for so many reasons. I think the guys have done enough suffering- they should live a little more. As for their “sound” I hear it as an overall whole in their work but they have grown as musicians, plus Jerry had the man this monster alone- please give him the credit HE deserves. Layne would want him to do this- be lead, keep his memory and his band alive.
