any of you idiots that do not have Judas on your list are just ignorant to what music is. I understand that it is matter of taste but when you say best ever Judas has to be in the discussion. And some of the bands you have listed are a joke or do not have enough of a work base to be considered.

Okay, lets think about this logically, not based off of our favorites.

    Black Sabbath
    Deep Purple
    Rainbow
    Judas Priest
    Iron Maiden
    Saxon
    Ozzy Osbourne
    Yngwie Malmsteen
    Motorhead
    Metallica
    Slayer
    Anthrax
    Megadeth
    Dio
    Pantera
    Testament
    Overkill
    Exodus
    Death
    Cannibal Corpse
    Dream Theater
    Tool

Also, whoever said Avenged Sevenfold or Bullet for my Valentine has their head so far up their own ass that they’re eating yesterday’s lunch. Seriously, you might as well say Nickelback if youre going to say those guys were the important.

All of those bands I could argue a case for being crucial to the development of at least a subgenre of metal.

This is my first post here on these forums and I really like this topic. Question is… Are we including the numerous subgenres of metal? That really opens the flood gates here. I mean the best metal bands Imo come from the thrash genre. Metallica, Megadeth,Pantera,Slayer, Anthrax. That would be my top 5 metal bands out of all the genres. I don’t know. Maybe I’m reading to much into it and taking it a little far. But im new, so whatever.

Really guys Alice in chains should be on this list- although most people consider them to be “grunge” I think there is far more “metal” influnence- listen to grind, sludge factory, them bones, DIRT was fucken dark, even Jar of Flies had metal under tones on through it- Rotten Apple, Nutshell, and Swing on This” all had that metal edge.
Alice had more influence and tribute to metal than most of the bands of the 90′s- Black sabbath, Zep, Deep Purple etc. In fact- Hate to Feel seems to pay homage to Zep’s “Shook Me All Night Long”

Maybe you guys see Zepplelin as a bridge to metal- not directly heavy metal. I will agree that “black sabbath” was the first heavy metal band- the guitar sound slower, lower, like a horror score- lol But I can’t not count Zeppelin because they explored all kinds of music and they are def elements of “metal” in their music.
