Update: Metallica have released pro-shot footage of their performance debut of "Hardwired" that can be seen in the player above.

Metallica surprised fans with the release of their new song "Hardwired" and the announcement of their long-awaited studio album Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct earlier this week. Now they can mark off another first, as they played the "Hardwired" single live for an audience for the first time.

The band was in Minneapolis Saturday night (Aug. 20) to perform at the new U.S. Bank Stadium and after a body of their set that included many familiar Metallica classics, they kicked off the encore with the full-throttle sensory overload of "Hardwired." You can watch footage of the performance in the first fan-shot video posted below, but as the audio is not as great on that clip, there's a second fan-recorded video that provides better audio but no visual.

In other Metallica news, the band has released a new trailer teasing the Nov. 8 release of Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct. The clip centers on the band's rich history, showing performance footage from throughout their career alongside a medley of songs from each release leading up to the message: "The wait is over." The video finishes out with quick hitting shots from the "Hardwired" video as well as photos of the album artwork before finishing with the album title and release date. Watch the new trailer below.
