Breaking news about Metallica's highly anticipated 3D film: The band just revealed that they've chosen director Nimrod Antal ('Kontroll,' 'Vacancy,' 'Predators') and producer Charlotte Huggins ('Journey 2: The Mysterious Island') to work with them in creating the film.

Metallica released the following statement on their official website: "At the beginning of the year we told you about our latest adventure into 3D film ... an all new, totally crazy world for us!! And, as we mentioned then, so many of the details were still being ironed out. With that said, we're super excited to announce that we will be teaming up with award winning director Nimrod Antal and producer Charlotte Huggins."

Adds drummer Lars Ulrich: "I've been a fan of Nimrod's since his first Hungarian film, 'Kontroll,' showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away. I've watched with excitement his career in Hollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his 'thinking outside of the box' personality. Let's get on with it!!!"

Nimrod Antal also shared his excitement for the upcoming project: "Metallica has always been a huge part of my life, and it's an incredible opportunity when we get to work with our heroes. We are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica's live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience."

According to a press release, "The film will be a marriage of narrative and concert and will star the five members of Metallica: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and the fans. It will begin shooting this August and will be released in the summer of 2013."

Metallica are planning to release more information on the film over the next few months.
