Motorboat Day 3: Anthrax Get Their Mariachi On, Down Rock the Boat + More
After a couple of days aboard the Carnival Ecstasy for this year’s Motorboat Cruise, the metal-loving passengers were excited to hop onto land and explore Cozumel, Mexico. On the third day of the trip, both the fans and bands did just that.
Before we made our way to Mexico, comedian Jim Breuer hosted a question and answer session with Frank Bello of Anthrax and David Ellefson of Megadeth. Fans got to ask anything they wanted and one even opted for a hug from Ellefson. Unfortunately, the session was cut short due to a heavy downpour.
Despite the rain delay, we made our way to shore where some of the locals looked at the metal heads with a look of curiosity and bewilderment. There were an abundance of bars looking out on the water. One bar in particular was Three Amigos, which had an awesome female-fronted band that cranked out covers from AC/DC, Queens of the Stone Age and more.
Meanwhile, Bello and his Anthrax bandmate Joey Belladonna had some fun with a Mariachi band. Zakk Wylde walked around taking in the sights and Testament frontman Chuck Billy grabbed some food at a bar overlooking the water.
When we returned to the boat, comedian Jim Breuer took hold of the Deck Stage for the sail away show. Elsewhere on the ship, Philip Anselmo and his mates in Down delivered a crushing set over at the Blue Sapphire Theater.
Fireball Ministry rocked at an intimate gig over at the Starlight Lounge for the last performance of the evening but the night was far from over. We caught up with some cool fans on the boat and while walking through the casino we saw none other than Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, who humorously posed for some dramatic photos.
With Mexico behind us, we were bound for our return to Miami. Stay tuned for our recap and photo gallery of Day 4. Check out our photos of day 3 below.
