Post-metal groundbreakers Neurosis previously announced their 11th album, Fires Within Fires would be released on Sept. 23 through their own label, Neurot Recordings. More details have emerged as the pioneers have revealed the cover art and the track listing.

Fitting in with the typically spiritual connection with the world around us, the cover artwork displays earthy tones of black, green and grey highlighted by a circle with a burnt red / brown hue and wispy, branch-like strands of grey and white arcing around it on the left. The skeleton key in the middle is cryptic, though a thematic connection can be made between the idea of unlocking something and the philosophical nature of the album's title.

Fires Within Fires is the first new album from Neurosis since 2012's Honor Found in Decay. The record is comprised of just five tracks and while the track lengths are not known, it would be a a stark contrast to the band's body of work if it were a relatively short album. Neurosis once again teamed up with esteemed producer Steve Albini, who they have been working with since 1999's seminal Times of Grace.

Though it has been a four-year gap between records, the members have been active, most notably frontman Scott Kelly, who has been performing in Hamlet at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as one of the Gravediggers as well as playing music onstage. Commenting on the opportunity, he stated “This is an adventure for me. I have never scored a film or a play before and I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do so. Thanks to my employers of the last 16 years, I am realizing this dream. Hamlet is an incredible ghost story about the darkest internal process.”
