New England Metal + Hardcore Festival 2013 Day 2 – Recap and Exclusive Photos

As Boston was able to finally catch its breath, metalheads continued to make their way to the Palladium for Day 2 of this year’s New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on Saturday (April 20).

Legendary Swedish progressive metalers Opeth served as headliner of the day of metal with a massive two hour set. Their performance opened with ‘The Devil’s Orchard,’ which was a calm start to the storm to come. They also treated fans by playing infectious tunes such as ‘Haxproces,’ ‘Hope Leaves,’ ‘Atonement’ and an acoustic version of ‘Demon of the Fall.’

The Dillinger Escape Plan brought complete and utter chaos and passion to the stage as they unleashed their energy on the crowd. On a few occasions throughout the set, frontman Greg Puciato hopped offstage and leaned over the barricade to greet crowd surfers and share the mic with them. Fans of Dillinger Escape Plan are incredibly passionate and after seeing the band’s intense performance, it’s easy to see why.

Katatonia’s set served as a change of pace and allowed the energetic fans that packed the Palladium to catch their breath. Paganfest bands such as Ensiferum, Tyr, Trollfest and Hellsot gave the lineup a vibrant and eclectic ambiance.

Other groups such as Born of Osiris, Within the Ruins, After the Burial and the Contortionist brought the house down with their incredible energy throughout the day. Crowdsurfers soared to the front for various sets and pits got more and more volatile.

Talented and unique acts Glass Cloud and Fit for an Autopsy are just a couple of the bands that got fans pumped earlier on in the day on main stage.

The second stage did not disappoint either as Terror took over for a mindblowing and headlining performance. Goatwhore also got fans fist pumping with a stellar performance. The talent didn’t stop there as Battlecross brought some serious headbanging action and Minnesota metal act Reflections rocked the Palladium as well.
