Former Queensryche singer Geoff Tate has been working with his new band Operation: Mindcrime for the past few years. The group has consistently been putting out new music since their 2015 album The Key, and are continuing with the third part of a trilogy, the upcoming album A New Reality, due out Dec. 1. In the lead up to the new album, we've got another new song to check out. Take a listen to "Wake Me Up" in the player above.

The song shows Operation: Mindcrime to be a capable group of musicians, able to weave together progressive metal madness as well as master the foundations of the genre. "Wake Me Up" features a groovy riff with Tate at the top of his game vocally. Synth sounds and keys add to the theatricality of the song, adding a level of drama to Tate's singing and allowing the track to soar to pretty huge heights. The song takes several detours in order to let loose thrilling and exciting solos.

In addition to the new song, Tate will also be taking Operation: Mindcrime out on a European tour this winter to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Operation: Mindcrime album, which he wrote with his former band. After the two-year legal battle with Queensryche, it was decided that Tate has exclusive touring rights to perform Operation: Mindcrime I and II. It's unknown whether or not the tour will hit the U.S. next year, but we're sure holding out hope that it will.
