Opeth Announce Release Date + Track Listing for 11th Studio Album ‘Pale Communion’

Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt
Roadrunner

Rejoice, metalheads! Opeth have just announced the title and release date for their highly anticipated 11th studio album! The Swedish band’s latest opus will be named ‘Pale Communion’ and will be unleashed on June 17.

‘Pale Communion’ will be Opeth’s follow-up to ‘Heritage,’ which proved to be polarizing among fans despite receiving very high acclaim. Having heard ‘Pale Communion,’ we can report that the album feels like a mixture of Opeth’s many strong points, highlighting nuances from past records such as ‘Damnation,’ ‘Heritage’ and even ‘Orchid.’ One notable detail to point out, however, is that frontman Mikael Akerfeldt does not bust out any guttural vocals on ‘Pale Communion.’

‘Pale Communion’ was produced by Akerfeldt himself and was mixed by Porcupine Tree legend Steven Wilson, who is also one half of Storm Corrosion with Akerfeldt.

Akerfeldt recently told us all about ‘Pale Communion’ during an exclusive interview. “If it sounds like us, that’s good. And if it sounds like something we don’t know, that’s also good,” Akerfeldt explained. “This album has some parts that sound like us and some parts that sound kind of new too. It’s a bit heavier than ‘Heritage’ at times and it’s a bit more melodic. I think it should be a bit easier to get into this record because there’s a lot of focus on the melodies. We’re a progressive band. Sometimes we sound like a metal band and sometimes we don’t.” Stay tuned for the full video interview with Opeth coming soon!

Get excited about Opeth’s newest album, because it’s coming soon! Fans will be able to pre-order ‘Pale Communion’ starting May 6. Those who pre-order the album via iTunes will immediately be able to download the new track ‘Cusp of Eternity.’ This offer will also be honored by the Roadrunner Records Webstore and O Merch.
