Otep Prove They’re ‘Battle Ready’ at New York Gig With Butcher Babies, One-Eyed Doll + More
The foundation of Webster Hall shook on Sunday (Aug. 26) where several women in hard rock and heavy metal showed their strength and talent as they rocked New York City. Otep, Butcher Babies, One-Eyed Doll and more played an intimate gig to an energetic crowd.
The night began with support from Long Island band The Things They Carried followed by “hood metal” act Xombie. Fans really got moving when Colorado outfit Arcanium took the stage.
One of the best sets of the night came from the Texas duo One-Eyed Doll. Frontwoman Kimberly Freeman is unpredictable, eccentric and absolutely a sight to see onstage. Her confidence and fan interaction will have One-Eyed Doll headlining shows of their own in no time. Not to mention the phenomenal set ended with her diving into the crowd and fans carrying her to the One-Eyed Doll merch table.
The West Coast band Butcher Babies gained some East Coast fans as their energetic set had everyone bouncing, singing and a few even crowd surfing. It’s no secret that vocalists Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey are talented and stunning onstage but they are incredibly engaging toward their fans, as well.
As 11pm rolled around it was time for the headliner Otep. Frontwoman Otep Shamaya looked better than ever as she was greeted by her enthusiastic fans. She kicked off the set and got everyone ‘Battle Ready’ for the night. Of course the infamous hog head graced the stage and fans sang along to favorites such as ‘Blood Pigs,’ ‘Confrontation,’ ’Rise, Rebel, Resist,’ and their rendition of Nirvana’s ‘Breed’ among many others.
Otep Shamaya proves she’s still got it and her vigor onstage is as powerful as ever even a decade after the bands’s first album ‘Sevas Tra.’ You can catch Otep on the road touring the U.S. until the end of Sept. For a full list of dates and cities, go here.
