Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix ‘Incredibly Sorry’ for Wayne Static Comments
Initially, the Papa Roach vocalist saw a blog post and had heard from others that Static's death was drug-related and put up a message on Instagram and Twitter, saying, "RIP Wayne.... This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from drug overdoses."
Loudwire had a chance to speak with Shaddix about Papa Roach's upcoming tour with Seether, and we brought up Static's death and his reaction. A very remorseful Shaddix, who had already apologized via Facebook, told us he felt really bad about his social media post.
"I'm incredibly sorry for his family," Shaddix told us. "It's devastating. It's so unexpected to have your loved one pass away. It's another good one down. I read a blog online that said it was an O.D., and I posted online, 'Too many dudes dying because of drugs. It's terrible.' Apparently, it's not drugs, so I put on my Facebook that I was incredibly sorry that I jumped the gun if that's not the truth. My heart goes out to his family, regardless. My intention wasn't to drag him through the mud or anything."
Jacoby added that he was a big fan of Static-X, especially their debut album, 'Wisconsin Death Trip.' As mentioned, Shaddix's comments to us followed a posting on his official Facebook page, which reads as follows:
I FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT MY POST ABOUT WAYNE'S PASSING. I HAD A FEW FRIENDS HIT ME UP AND SAID HE DIED FROM OVERDOSE. I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED MY FACTS FIRST........ MY HEART GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. MY HEART IS HEAVY. WAYNE I ALWAYS HAD RESPECT FOR YOU AND DIDNT MEAN TO DISRESPECT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY LIKE I DID. IT WASNT MY INTENTIONS. I WILL OWN MY MISTAKE. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.
As people who've followed Papa Roach over the years know, Shaddix is a very earnest and honest individual who wears his heart on his sleeve. During our phone conversation with him, it was quite clear in his voice that he felt a lot of regret for his initial comments about Wayne Static.
