Stone Gossard is used to being onstage with Pearl Jam, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll have any less stage fright when it comes to his mission today.

The band tweeted that their guitarist will get to throw out the first pitch at tonight's Seattle Mariners game against the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field. The appearance will give one of Seattle's highest profile musicians a chance to rally behind the home team.

It's also no coincidence that he was the one chosen for the first pitch honor as the eco-friendly rocker is on hand for Forterra Nights, one of two events this season in which the ticket purchases via a special offer for the game will result in the Mariners organization and Forterra planting a tree for every ticket sold.

As a member of Pearl Jam, Gossard has led the band's environmental pursuits in establishing their own carbon neutral policy. Gossard has also been a member of the Board of Directors at the Wild Salmon Center for international conservation located in Portland.
