Update: It turns out Prophets of Rage will not make their New York debut at the Governors Ball music festival after all as organizers have revealed that "severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area" has caused the cancellation of the festival's final day. Among the performers set to take the stage Sunday were Prophets of Rage, Eagles of Death Metal and headliner Kanye west. A full statement, including refund info, can be found here.

Update 2: Prophets of Rage moved quickly to line up a show at Brooklyn's Warsaw Ballroom this evening, with proceeds benefitting the WhyHunger organization. Details here.

Prophets of Rage set Los Angeles abuzz over the past week with performances at the Whisky-a-Go-Go and the Hollywood Palladium, but they'll finish out the week on the East Coast. The band has been announced as the surprise guest for New York's Governors Ball Music Festival.

The supergroup featuring members of Rage Against the Machine sharing the stage with Public Enemy's Chuck D. and DJ Lord and Cypress Hill's B-Real will perform at 6:30PM ET tonight (June 5) on the Bacardi House Stage. This will serve as the band's third live performance and first festival appearance.

The band has expressed that the reason for their formation was to bring forth the political musical statements made by songs from the catalogs of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, as they remain as vital in this election year as ever. During a recent interview, Tom Morello revealed that the band has plans to turn up in Cleveland during the Republican National Convention in July. When asked if they planned to do the same for the Democratic National Convention, Morello added, "Anything's possible, but right now we're figuring it out."

So far, Prophets of Rage have remained rather stealth in their touring, announcing their shows either the day before or the day of the performance and cutting down on the scalping by having tickets be purchased at the venue. So keep an ear out for more Prophets of Rage shows.
