Legendary Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek passed away on May 20 at the age of 74.

Manzarek was an essential piece in creating the Doors' iconic sound. His keyboard tone and ability to add a tremendous amount of melody to classics such as 'Break on Through (To the Other Side),' 'Peace Frog' and 'L.A. Woman' made him a true gem. The rock icon lived a long and distinguished life, but unfortunately succumbed to bile duct cancer this year.

"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," said Doors guitarist Robby Krieger in statement. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."
