Rob Zombie is ready to head back behind the camera and the subject matter for his next film is familiar territory. Zombie confirmed to Bloody Disgusting that he's planning to direct a new film set in The Devil's Rejects world.

It remains to be seen exactly how Zombie will address the seeming finality of such characters as Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) as the trio drove into a hail of gunfire at the end of the original film. So at this point it is unknown if the story will be a sequel somehow resurrecting the Firefly family, a prequel giving more backstory into the characters or a spinoff.

Zombie originated the characters in his film House of 1,000 Corpses and continued the story with The Devil's Rejects. He's spoken about his desire to return to the story at some point, but being as Lionsgate had intellectual property over the characters, there had to be support on that end.

Zombie has done a masterful job in recent years balancing his music and film work. In addition to House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, he's primarily stayed in the horror genre with his movies, taking on a reboot of the Halloween franchise and delivering a sequel as well, and most recently serving up the psychological horror flick 31. With a new film en route, we're anxious to see where he takes the Devil's Rejects story from here.

In other Zombie-related news, the director's films Halloween and Halloween 2, will be played alongside John Carpenter's original Halloween film at the haunted historic Los Angeles Theatre in downtown L.A. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The charity event will also feature a number of cast members from the film, as well as other horror movie actors and actresses turning up for the evening. Tickets are available here.
