The third and final day of this year’s Rock’N Derby Festival had some weather scares but the sun eventually won out and so did the music.

Shinedown headlined the Derby stage and provided a lively performance, cranking out early favorites like “Fly From the Inside,” “45” and their cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” By the end of the night both fans and the band were sweat soaked and voices were hoarse as the band finished out with “The Sound of Madness.” Coheed and Cambria took the stage beforehand and ripped through their commanding set as the sun finally peeked out.

Ghost, who hit the Derby Stage earlier, brought the rain with them as it started pouring with high winds as soon as they launched into their set. The weather intensified as they played and made it that much more eerie. One of the bands who kicked things off early in the day was Sevendust, cranking out new tracks from their latest album Kill the Flaw. They also played older tunes "Shine,” “Face to Face” and other anthems for die-hards. If you weren’t already a Sevendust fan then they surely won some fans over with their charisma and force. Their tourmates Trivium also unleashed a heavy hitting set onto the crowd early on.

Over on the Rock’N Stage, it was a rough night for headliners Megadeth, who found out earlier that day that their former bandmate Nick Menza passed away. The band had a moment of silence for Menza and frontman Dave Mustaine said, “Nick went to heavy metal heaven last night” before performing “Trust.”  Megadeth as a whole are always dynamic onstage and although it was a tough night for them, they powered through with the help from Soilwork’s Dirk Verbeauren on drumming duties. They ended the night with another moment for Menza as Mustaine stated, “I usually say, ‘You’ve been great, we’ve been Megadeth.’ But Nick, you’ve been great. I love you, buddy.”

Earlier on the Rock’N Stage, Sixx: A.M. performed a rockin’ show despite some rain. Collective Soul and Dokken also cranked out some tunes, but unfortunately the New Zealand rock act Like A Storm were not able to perform or even attend the festival due to vehicle troubles.

In the indoor Upstate Concert Hall Arena Stage some vigorous performances were provided by Upon A Burning Body and Born of Osiris. Headlining band Enter Shikari completely stole the show as one of the top bands of the day. Frontman Rou Reynolds is fearless onstage and the entire band is unrelenting and not afraid to get up close and personal with fans. Enter Shikari are exciting, engaging and not to be missed whether they’re at a festival or playing a show of their own.
