Saint Vitus are one of America's most prominent doom bands and absolute legends of the underground. One of the many bands iconic singer Scott 'Wino' Weinrich has left his stamp on, the band revels in Black Sabbath themes of isolation and depression, as evident by "The Bleeding Ground," given an extra raw energy on the group's new live record, Live Vol. 2 as heard above.

"This is a true story. It's about oppressing neglect and a bunch of bulls--t like that, this is 'The Bleeding Ground,'" introduces guitarist Dave Chandler before leading into the song with a spotlight, sultry riff as the axeman's fuzz-laden guitar tone mournfully pours through his amp. The song itself is staggeringly barren, like so many of the best Saint Vitus tracks, as riffs drop out routinely, allowing for Wino to fill the space with his unmistakable croon.

If the track sounds a bit raw, that was the intent! Live Vol. 2 was recorded on the Lillie: F-65 tour on March 19, 2013 at the Kulturfabrik in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Opting to forego any studio tricks and nuances, Saint Vitus left the entire raw recording preserved as is with no overdubs; a live record in its absolute purest form.

"The Bleeding Ground" comes off the aforementioned Lillie: F-65, which is also the name for a popular downer from days gone by that was a band favorite. The album, released in 2012, was the first since the 2008 reunion, ending a 17-year long drought for Saint Vitus and 22 years without Wino's voice on one of their records.

Live Vol. 2 will be out Sept. 23 through Season of Mist. Pre-orders can be placed here with a variety of options including colored vinyl and more. For further updates, follow both Season of Mist and Saint Vitus on their respective Facebook pages.
