Slash and his musical Conspirators slithered their way into the House of Blues in Boston on July 8 for a sweaty summer gig that quickly manifested itself into everything a summer rock show should be.

It's hard to argue that the name Slash immediately conjures up thoughts of gritty guitar riffs delivered via an enigmatic sunglasses clad, top hat sporting, master axe-slinger, but the one thing Slash doesn’t seem to be recognized enough for is his keen ability to continually surround himself with a cast of musicians who perfectly complement not only his style of playing but his full body of work.

After releasing his latest solo disc ‘Apocalyptic Love’ in mid 2012 under the moniker Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, the guitarist continues to rock with that crew for his live shows. With the versatile vocal styles of Kennedy on the mic, double threat Todd Kerns on bass and vocals, Brent Fitz on drums and newest addition Frank Sidoris on guitar you’d be hard pressed to find another rock band that rival their camaraderie on the stage and their chemistry throughout the set.

For fans looking for a Guns N' Roses fix, the two-hour long set featured several GN'R staples like ‘Night Train,’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine,’ ‘Rocket Queen’ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle.’ The band also played a handful of Velvet Revolver tunes like ‘Slither’ and ‘Let It Roll,’ and even pulled a Slash’s Snakepit tune out of the vault, covering all the bases when it came to shining a light on the vast musical career Slash has made for himself. Some of the most memorable moments came from the music the band recorded together for ‘Apocolyptic Love’ -- from kicking the show off with ‘Halo’ to the first single ‘You’re a Lie’ and their latest hit, ‘Anastasia.’

So while the top hat and shades may be what make Slash so recognizable on purely a visual plane, he has truly cemented his legacy via his ability to create new and exciting music as he evolves from project to project from year to year, striking a chord with rock enthusiasts note by slinky note.
